The Weekly Limit Of Connection Requests You Can Send On LinkedIn

In the spring of 2021, LinkedIn pushed an update where users are limited to sending 100 connection requests per week.

The reason why LinkedIn put this limit in place is to encourage the members on the platform to use their connection requests wisely by connecting only with their target audience or connecting with people they already know such as work colleagues, classmates, friends, family, etc…

What Will Happen If You Pass The Limit Of 100 Connection Requests Per Week On LinkedIn?

You will get blocked from sending connection requests temporarily, but if you passed that number again then LinkedIn will block you from sending connection requests permanently or might even suspend your LinkedIn account.

Click here to learn more about the types of restrictions for sending too many invitations.

The Limit Of 1st-degree Connections You Can Have On LinkedIn

The limited number of 1st-degree connections you can have on LinkedIn is 30,000 connections.

What Will Happen When I Reach 30,000 Connections On LinkedIn?

LinkedIn by default will change the “connect” button to the “follow” button on your LinkedIn profile.

Can I Send Or Accept Any Connection Requests After I Reach The 30,000 Connections Limit On LinkedIn?

The short answer is, no.

You can not send or accept any connection requests after you reach the 30,000 connections limit.

The only possible way to connect with new people after you reach the 30,000 connections limit, is that you will have to remove or disconnect from other connections that you already have in your LinkedIn network

By doing so, you will go a few numbers down under the 30,000 connections cap which will give you the ability to send or accept new LinkedIn connection requests.

The Difference Between The 1st, 2nd, And 3rd-degree Connections

LinkedIn has three different levels of connections, which can be 1st degree, 2nd degree, or 3rd-degree connections.

1st-degree Connections:

Are the people that you’re already connected with.

2nd-degree Connections:

They’re the people who are connected to your 1st-degree connections but not connected (2nd degrees) with you.

LinkedIn will show you the mutual connections you have with your 2nd-degree connections.

3rd-degree Connections:

These are basically the people who are connected to your 2nd-degree connections. In this case, you have no mutual connection with the 2nd-degree connections.

LinkedIn will suggest 3rd-degree connections as “People Based On Your Profile”.

Check out this insightful page by the LinkedIn Help Center that goes deeper into the explanation of Followers, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree connections.

The Difference Between The “Connect” and “Follow” Buttons

The main difference between the “connect” and “follow” buttons is that:

“Connect” allows you to add anyone to your network as a 1st-degree connection which will give you the ability to send a direct message to them, and see their content and updates on your LinkedIn feed and they can see yours on their feed as well.

The “follow” button on LinkedIn is more limited because it only allows you to follow and see the latest posts and updates of those people who are interesting to you, without being able to send them any direct messages.

Frequently Asked Questions

How LinkedIn Connection Request Works?

When a LinkedIn user wants to connect with someone on LinkedIn (2nd or 3rd-degree connection), they go to that person’s profile and click the connection request button.

LinkedIn then asks for some information about the person you’re trying to connect with, for example, is he/she a:

– Work colleague.
– Classmate.
– Met at a work-related event.
– Other.
– We don’t know each other.

After you choose one of the options above, you hit the “connect” button.

Then what will happen next is…

LinkedIn will notify the person that you want to connect with him/her, and that person will have the option of whether they would like to accept your connection request or not.

Once the person accepts the connection request, they will be added to your network on LinkedIn as a 1st-degree connection.

Done!

What Happens When Someone Ignores Your LinkedIn Connection Request?

Nothing! The connection request will remain there until you cancel it.
